Why We Ask About Your Competitors.

One of the questions we ask our clients that is sure to get a raised eyebrow and a quizzical look is, who are your competitors and what do you do better than they do?  It’s true, we want to know about your competitors not just you.

Our client information questionnaire has a whole section on your competitors.  Who are they?  What do you do better than your competitors?  What will your website be or do that will distinguish itself from your competitor’s website? What will make your competitors envious about your website?

Wait, why so many questions about and on competitors?  It’s all about differentiating your business and your website from the herd.  Our goal is to help you distinguish your website both in content and look and feel to stand out, one way to do this is to look at the competition.

STANDOUT VISUALLY

One important way to stand out online is to have a unique looking website.  When website visitors are browsing, your website and business is more likely to stick in their mind if it is different (in a good way!). Take a look at what your competitors are doing with their websites. Is everyone using bright primary colors?  Are they all using "minimalist" design?   After checking out some of the websites you'll probably notice a lot of them look the same, or seem to have the same layout.  Your goal is to have an attractive and out of the same old same old website.

PUT WHAT YOU DO WELL FRONT AND CENTER

Part of answering the question, "What do you do better than your competitors?" is to get you thinking about what you offer your customers that others don't or that you do much better.  Make a list.  This is the information that should be on your home page and reflected throughout your website.  Think about your niche.  You cannot be all things to all people, but there are things that you in particular do very well--let others know about them!

WEBSITE ENVY

Another question to ask yourself is, what will my competitors be envious about when they see my new website?  Will you have online chat to help customers out?  Will you have a secure website by using HTTPS?  Will the website be organized so well that your customers can find everything they need?  Have you anticipated what your visitors are looking for?  Please be sure to create an "Envy List," it will help you define what is important for you to include in your website.

Please book a free website consultation call if you would like to talk about your business and explore how we can help you stand out in the herd.
